Erbjudandet till Etnografiska museet att inköpa dessa nutida lerkärl från puebloindianer kom från Amerikanska ambassaden, Stockholm. Dessa lerkärl visar hantverkskickligheten hos indianska keramiker, ofta(-st) kvinnor, bland pueblofolken i USA´s sydvästområde. Dylika lerkärl har, ända sedan slutet på 1800-talet när järnvägen (med turister, uppköpare/gallerier, etnografer-antropologer, konstnärer) kom till detta indianska kulturområde i Nordamerika, blivit omtyckta samlarobjekt inom kategorin "contemporary North American Indian arts and crafts". Exempel på denna kategori (t.ex. lerkärl; filtar/vävnader; korgar; silver- och turkossmycken; dockor) är utställda i museets Nordamerika-utställning, öppnad 2008. I museets bibliotek finns publikationer (böcker och tidskrifter) om nutida indiankonst avsedd för en yttre marknad: se t.ex. olika utställningskataloger; tidskriften American Indian Art Magazine; L.S. The offer to purchase these contemporary Native American arts and crafts objects came to the Museum of Ethnography from the US Embassy, Stockholm. These clay bowls reveal the high craftmanship among Native American ceramists (often women) among the pueblo Indians in the US Southwest. Such art works demand high prices and have become (ever since the railroad (with tourists, galleries, anthropologists, art lovers, art lovers) in the end of the 1800s came to this Native American culture area of North America) much esteemed collector´s items within the category of "contemporary Native American arts and crafts". Examples of this category (e.g. clay bowls, weavings/blankets, basketry, silver- ocnd turquoise, dolls) are on display in the museum´s North America exhibition, opened 2008. A large amount of publications (books and journals) in the museum´s library deal with contemporary Native American arts and crafts aimed for an outside market (see Entré till samlingen).
