Bägare, Kopp med handtag, Cup

Den här runda koppen har ett öronformat handtag. Från mynningskanten går sidorna rakt ner till buken och svänger sedan in mot den platta basen. Två utskjutande band går runt koppen i höjd med handtagets övre och undre del. Det runda handtaget har tillverkats separat och kittats fast på koppen i en diagonal vinkel. I området runt handtaget täcks ytan av keramikerns fingeravtryck. Drejmärken, framförallt på koppens insida, tyder på att kärlets yta jämnats till på en drejskiva. Leran är av hög kvalitet och mörkgrå.

Den här typen av kopp med handtag användes troligen som vardagsredskap till vin eller vatten.

This round cup has an ear-shaped handle. From the rim, the sides run straight down to the belly and taper to a flat base. Two raised bands encircle the cup at the height of the top and the bottom of the handle. The round handle was modelled separately and luted to the body of the cup in a diagonal angle. Around the area of the handle, impressions from the potter's fingers cover the surface. Turning marks, most evident on the interior surface, indicate that the vessel was smoothened on a potter's wheel. The clay is refined and has fired to a dark greyish colour.

This type of cups with handles were probably used as everyday utensils for drinking wine or water.

Anni Kalbak's collection (purchased)
Anni Kalbak (born Anni Steinert Sørensen) was the wife of Dr. Kaj Algot Kalbak (1909–1992), a Danish medical doctor, who worked as chief physician and head of the Department for Clinical Microbiology at the National Medical Center in Seoul from 1958 to 1962. The establishment of the National Medical Center (NMC) was a joint medical project between the Scandinavian countries, the UNKRA (United Nations Korean Reconstruction Agency) and the Korean government. The Swedish contribution to the NMC was a continuation of the Swedish Red Cross Hospital in Busan that was operated during and after the Korean war (1950–1958). While living in Korea, Dr. Kalbak built a collection of over 500 objects, including archaeological and ethnographic material and art objects, from a period spanning from the Three Kingdoms period (57 BCE–668 CE) to the Joseon dynasty (1392–1910) that he presumably purchased from antique shops. It can be assumed that Anni Kalbak acquired objects for her own collection during this time, perhaps from the same shops. After returning to Denmark, Dr. Kalbak donated his collection to the National Museum of Denmark. Anni Kalbak’s collection of more than 90 objects was purchased by the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities in 1987. Her collection includes bronze objects from the Goryeo dynasty (918–1392), a great variety of ceramic objects from the Three Kingdoms period, and the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties, and a collection of over 40 paintings from the Joseon dynasty. Especially the acquisition of the painting collection held significance for the Museum as there were not many Korean paintings in the collection up to that time.

둥근 잔에 귀 모양의 손잡이가 달려 있다. 입구에서부터 수직으로 내려와 배로 이어지고 그 아래로는 납작한 바닥으로 내려가며 좁아지는 형태이다. 잔 바깥면에 손잡이 위쪽과 아래쪽 높이로 돋을 띠를 각각 한 줄씩 둘렀다. 둥근 손잡이는 따로 성형하여 몸체에 사선으로 부착했다. 손잡이 주변 기면(器面)에 도공이 손으로 누른 자국이 남아 있다. 잔 안쪽 면에서 제일 뚜렷하게 확인되는 회전 흔적을 통해 물레를 돌려 표면을 다듬었음을 알 수 있다. 바탕흙(태토 胎土)으로 고운 찰흙을 사용하였으며, 잔의 표면은 어두운 회색을 띤다.

이러한 유형의 손잡이가 달린 잔은 술이나 물을 마시기 위한 일상 용기로 사용되었을 것으로 추정된다.

안니 칼박 소장 (구입)
안니 칼박은 1958년부터 1962년까지 서울에 위치한 국립중앙의료원에서 근무했던 덴마크인 의사 카이 알고트 칼박 (1909-1992) 박사의 아내이다. 국립중앙의료원은 스칸디나비아의 스웨덴, 덴마크, 노르웨이 3국과 국제연합한국재건단 그리고 한국 정부가 협력하여 설치 및 운영한 공공의료원이다. 스웨덴은 한국전쟁 기간 동안 그리고 그 이후에 부산에 위치한 스웨덴 적십자 야전병원을 운영한 것의 연장선상에서 국립중앙의료원에 기여한 것이었다. 한국에 거주하면서 칼박 박사는 삼국시대부터 조선시대까지 다양한 연대를 아우르는 고고학적 그리고 민족지학적 자료와 예술품을 포함하여 500여 점의 유물을 수집했는데, 이들은 골동품점에서 구입했을 것으로 추정된다. 안니 칼박도 같은 시기에 동일한 골동품점으로부터 개별적으로 유물들을 입수했을 것으로 짐작된다. 덴마크로 귀국한 후, 칼박 박사는 수집품들을 덴마크국립박물관에 기증했다. 안니 칼박의 90여 점의 수집품은 1987년 동아시아박물관에서 구입했는데, 여기에는 고려시대 청동 유물, 삼국, 고려, 조선시대에 걸친 다양한 도자기 유물과 조선시대 회화 40여 점이 포함되어 있다. 특히 이 컬렉션의 입수는 그 당시 동 박물관에서 소장품이 많지 않던 한국 회화 부문의 공백을 메우는 중요한 계기가 되었다.
