O21 THE NATIONAL GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF CHINA 9 PING MA SSU, WEST CITY, PEIPING, CHINA Dr. J. GG. Andersson, / Ostasiatiska Samlingarna, Sveavägen 65, Stockholm. Dear Dr. Andersson:- Many thanks for your letter of the 19th Jan. and the bill of lading which I have handed ERA Dr. Wong to- gether with the list. Thank you very much for your kind promise to send me photographs of the Yangshao culture. TI am however very anxious to get some photographs of your Suiyuan bronze. You will remember also that you took from Mr, Lo some caffries and gave them to your friends to study. Can you let me know very briefly the result? é , Mr. Karlbeck told me that 8 had heard from you lately that your book on "Prehistoric China" was ready. I need hardly tell you how eager I am to know your conclusions, Is it at all possible for me to have access to your menuscript or proof sheets? . I am still expecting to hear from you about Wimans publication plans, As we must make up our budget, it is imperative that we know before hand our obligations. Otherwise I Havö very little to add to what I have said in my previous letters. With kind regards, Yours sincerely, & åf (- VS Ra SUNT i

OTER. hist of proposed plates. 1. Map showing natural divisiony of China, 2. Palaeolithic and mesolithic impl€ments from Mongolia, Ordos and Sshensi collected by Nelson, Teilhard and Yang. Photographs can be made from the specimens in the Geological Survey Museum. 3, The three neolithic cultures - the Northern (without painted pottery), the Central (=Yangshao) and the Southern, The Geological Survey collection can be used for these. 4, Painted pottery from Honan, Kansu compared with that of ANnau, Susa etc, 5. The Anyang culture - early bronze excavated by Lichi who has promised to supply me with photographs which have not yet been published. 6. Middle bronze period (early Chou) - I am Bure what this plate should consist of, as most of the early Chou bronze are not critically dated. I will try to use examples from our own museums if possible. Some specimens of non- Chinese bronze of the 3, will be included. 7. Late Bronze period - the Hsincheng collection discovered a few years ago in Honan. 3 different publications have been issued all in Chinese and rather poorly printed. As far as I know no good illustrations have appeared in any of the foreign lenguages. This is by far the most beautiful as well as the most extensive find of its kind, and moreover is well- dated, 8. Archaeological objects of the Han - bronze, mor- tuary pottery, and jade etc., I may have to copy one or two figures from either Sstein's or Hedin's books to illustrate mode of writing and silk fabric, || »n Stone sculptures in the Y 'ang cave in N. shansi - Buddhistic Art during the Northern Wei, showing Indian influence, 10. Tang mortvary figures - Bactrian houses, Central Asian Guards, dancing women and oxen carts —- all from the His- torical Museum here, E 11. Fac simile of a map of China engraved on stone in the Sung Dynasty. 12. Plates showing the evolution of porcelain,
