To judge from these facts there can be not a slightest Aoubt I think that the damage done to this object is due too carelessa preking and subsequent knocking about thisspeci- mon inside the box during the transport. The mouth of the Föshandle 13 now bsdly bruised and broken over the larger part of tbe circumference. I esk you kindly to excuse that my reply is so much delayed because of this being our regular holiday season. vith reference to the damage åone to the Ko-handle /No. 159 in your cstalogue/ I wish to make the following statements: : The Xo-handle was upon Sir Percival David”s personal request for- warded to us through the mediation of H.R.i. the Crownprince of Sweden, brought to London by me personally immediately before the opening of the Exhibition. This specimen was most carefully packed in a small, specially made wooden-box,which I delivered unopened in your office, but I saw the specimen and handled 1t, when it was put into the Exhi- bition and oan testify that it was at that time still sbsolutetryun- damaged. 2: Thanks to some misunderstanding 1t has been reported to Sir Percival David thet the specimen was sent back poorly packed and placed inside 8 bronze-vase belonging to I.
