6lI6 Stockholm, August 14, 1936. Doctor J.G. Andersson, stockholm Dear Doctor Andersson. Many thanke for your most interesting letter of yesterday. It suggests most valuable help towards solving the problems of Hongkong prehistory; with your skill and experience of Chinese archaeology your cooveration would be invaluable and I should indeed like to see the suggestion realized. However, I had best remind you that my representation of the Hongkong Government was actually limited to the Oslo Conference and any suggestion or even promise except for such help as may be given by one most interested in the issue would be ultra vires. Within that reservat- ion I shall be glad to help in any way I can, It seems to me that the general conditions you propose are apt to win the approval of the Hongkong Government. There are enough sites of the same general character to provide work even for several independant missions, should there be any other party wishing to try them. On the other hand, the Hongkong Government would by your proposal be freed from the possible opprobrium of exposing valuable prehistoric material to destruction while enabled without any expense on their part to make use of the large resources of sand which is so urgently in demand: at present
