I have been give. all possible suppobtfrom the local authorities here and the work is now progressing smootly. I have been given a number of rooms with a good laboratory in the Historical Museum , and nearly half of the Kansu col. lection is now unpacked and prepared for beeingphotographed and éescri- bed » I have five assistads at my disposal and consider that the work is now well on the way . Ve have just begun the photographic work and the fetailed description of the complete fure ral earns . I hope in the course of the spring to have a considerable number of these ready for repacking and returning to the Geological Survey of Chima. As to our Swedish Publication Fund much money has been consumed lately but,as you know, very big monographs on fossil mammels have been printed and än addition Halle has made much progress witn his numerous pla tes . I herewith send you an account giving the money spent from the Kreuger fund until ferterbermå Pos SROPÅDE tb SES RNE rOR NET has begp fRösWigfnning of September I had a meeting with Lagrelius, Wiman and Halle to discuss the plans for the future publication work . At ihis occasion we agreed to devide the remaining amount in tnree equal parts , one to be used by Wiman , one by Halle and one by me. I feel that this arrangement will help a little to make tne respective de= partments economise with their funådg . =». At the same occasion I discussed with Wiman and Halle further means of cutting down expences without lowering to much the standard of our monographs. Both the two mentioned colleges were exceedingly willing to meet me in this efford and we agreed upon the following suggestions to you . 1: That only parts of the plates will le printed in he liotype endå that as many plates as possible will be executed in copperplate. I herewitn send you two experimental prints of one of ådansky's plate printed both in heliotypev ahd copperplate. You will see at once that the copperplate is decidedly inferior but I think it safe to sy that the difference is not more than that the cheaper copperpla te can be used in many cases. On a sheet hereby adéed you will find an estimate of the plate printeå in heliotype and in copperpla te. We will be very glad to la ve your opinion on. the eventual use of the cheaper eopperplate print in such cases when it seems adviseable 23 To printoethe text of Palaedntologia Sinica with the 1ess specio type. We have mm de an experiment also in this case and send you two sheets , one with the print used 80 far and the other with the much smaller print.
