VII Nils Rettig Collection Series nos. 14607, 14609, 14612-14614, 14623, 14633, 14631 (9 cylinders) Nils Rettig was an official of the Swedish Foreign Office from 1920 to his death on 11 March 1933 in Egypt. He served in a number of countries with distinction, ending as First Secretary in the Swedish Legation in Cairo. He was interested in and bought antiquities from dealers in that city. A few of these were given by N. Rettig to the Egyptian Museum and the rest were acquired after his death from his brother, including this group of seals.

Parallels: Amiet 1992, p. 205 nos. 542-544 excavated at Ras Shamra-Ugarit, they are described as made of brown and black stone and steatite. Such types of random linear decoration usually made of clay have a long history and wide distribution although many are believed to come from the Diyala region (check Al Gailani Werr).
