The collection formed by Karl Bergsten (Stockholm) in the first part of the 20th century is still partly in the possession of the family. The collection mostly comprise Roman and Egyptian sculpture, of which many were bought at Christie´s London sale June 5, 1930. Among these is a group of sculptures previously forming part of the Lansdowne collection. This head belong to these. Its modern history goes back to 1771, when it was acquired by Gavin Hamilton after having been found at Hadrian’s villa at TIvoli.
