Det är oftast män som har gjort de samlingar som införlivats i Etnografiska museet. Men bakom många män finns ofta en kvinna som möjliggjort samlandet, donationen eller inköpet. Med några få undantag har kvinnor inte varit synliga i museets historia.

Systrarna Bodil Christensen och Helga Larsen, från Danmark och verksamma i Mexiko, hade mycket god kontakt med Etnografiska museet, inte minst under museets Mexiko-expeditioner på 1930-talet. De bidrog med etnografiska samlingar med mycket god information kring föremålen och publicerade artiklar i Etnografiska museets internationella tidskrift Ethnos. Systrarna Bodil Christensen och Helga Larsen är exempel på att kvinnor inte fått berättigad uppmärksamhet i museets historia. Textilierna kommer från Bodil Chistensens samling 1937.

Most of the collections acquired by the Museum of Ethnography were created by men. But behind those men you often find a woman who made the collecting, the donation or purchase possible. With few exceptions from the rule, women have not been visible in the museum’s history.

The sisters Bodil Christensen and Helga Larsen, from Denmark and active in Mexico, were in close contact with the Museum of Ethnography, above all during their Mexican expeditions in the 1930’s. They contributed with ethnographic collections containing excellent information on the items and they published articles in Ethnos, the museum’s international journal. Bodil Christensen and Helga Larsen are illustrative examples of women not having received due attention in the history of the museum. The textiles are from the collection of Bodil Christensen, 1937.
