Skalin, Karin

The collection, anthropmorphic and zoomorphic clay fragments from Mexico, was offered to the museum by "good man" (i.e. formally representing the interests of a particular person) to Karin Skalin who had owned the objects sin the 1950s. As an alternative to that the collection would go out on the commercial market, the museum acquired the collection in which many objects have provenance information; e.g. San Jeronoimo and Coyuca in Guerrero and Monte Alban in Oaxaca. The museum informed the Embassy of Mexico, Stockholm, (see archived corr.), about the acquisition who in turn informed Mexican authorities. It was suggested that an expert on Precolumbian art/archaeology from Mexico would in the future visit the museum. The collection is an addition to the museum´s many Precolumbian collections from Mexico and the rest of the Americas.
