Disassembled ceramic censer. A.D. 200-400 The Swedish archaeologist Sigvald Linné excavated the apartment compound of Tlamimilolpa in 1934-1935. Tlamimilolpa is one ol the less spacious compounds, with many small rooms arranged in a labyrinthine plan. Burial 1 was the most lavish burial in the entire histor) ol the compound. It was built near the time of the foundation of the Structure, three floors under room 16. Over twelve hundred objects were buried with this dead man, many of which were cremated with him. The censer was found in about thirty fragments. This censer is noteworthy because of its early date and because its various parts are handmade rather than molmade. Unlike most of the later censers, this was not painted in bright colors but covered in whitewash. Unusual details include the spiral scroll that emerges from the mask´s forehead and the mantas with their fingerlike projections. (Berrin 1993:219)
