A demon referred to as purnaka raksa (Sin.).
Context
Stage two in a Kolam performance.
Material
Wood, vel-kaduru (Sin.) (Nux vomica).
Iconography
The mouth is in the shape of an animal snout with whiskers painted in black lines. It is elongated and painted in red. The mouth is half-open with broad jaws, two sets of carnivorous teeth, two eye-teeth in the form of tusks, and a lapping tongue. The nostrils are drilled and turned upwards. Protruding eyes. The headdress is composed of six tall spires, which symbolise fire or flames. The eyebrows are shaped in three tiers decorated with petal motifs, pala peti (Sin.), in red, yellow, green and black. The ears are missing.
