På ena sidan helt täckt med blommotivi glaspärlebrodyr i olika färger på vit. botten, ena kortsidan. tre knappar. Utdrag ur brev från P.H.Douglas, Denver, av 2.11. 1948. :" First there is your' question ab.out the two Ojibwa beaded specimens. These were chosen to represent in your collection a type of Indian craft which has been highly characteristic of the Great Lakes and Missi- sippi Valley tribes for at. least a century and very probably muck more. Speck and others feel. that these floral design represent an old.basid native style which has been influenced by- Prendh embroidery patterns. Whatever be the origin, the fact remains that these tribes have made this style highly characteristic of their art, and have long considered it to be a purely Indian. product. No collection of beadwork in the histo- ric period would be complete without representa- tives of this style. These pieces were collected in the early 20th century and may weil be consi- dered.as late 19th century work. The bags were formerly functional, but for several generations they have been worn largely as symbols of wealth and social position. Five or six may be worn at once on important occasions.
