. 56.37. skrift Sorong, 20 April 1956. To the Swedish Embasey in the Netherlands. hear Sira, I am an oil-geologiet, working in Dutch 'New Guinea. During my trips in the inlands of this country, I collected a lot of ethnografica and my contract being nearly finished, 1 wonder what to do with them. I have got quite a complete collection of the Missel-lake area and from the Asmat people along the South-coast. I think it wOuld be a pity to split up this collection by giving it at random away on friende and acquaintances. Dutch musea will pro- bably have anough of this stuff 1 suppose so that ,perhaps most of it should disappear in cellers if 1 gave it to them. Therefore I thought of your country. In the first place are you very sympathetic to us, for we still did not forget your splendid help to the Netherlands on the end of the war, and secondly your country has no "colonies" or whatever they may call them presently. 1 sand you herewith a more or less complete list of the things 1 have for you. 1 ask you to forward this letter to one of your ethnological musea in your country. If they are willing to accept my gift, the following may be of importances 1. The rosts of emballage and shipping will be for them. 2. It is not allowed to export ethnografica from this country. A special permit is needed. As soon as I have got,an official letter that one of your musea will accept the gift, I can taka action to get an export license for the things. But as time is rather pressing, for 2 am leaving New Guinea medio of July, 1 should advise you that one of your officials should write a small nots linea recta to the Governer of Neth. New Guinea in Hollandia (Neth. N. Guinea). For post connee- tions are still very slow here and our officials are still slower. This would fix things easter. Furthermore I have made a lot of photographs and colour-slides, which may eventually be of interest for your museum to complete the collection and to show how things are used here. If they want so, I can give them prints but this matter can betteg watt till I am back in Holland. [ocr]
