169 1938.19. Avskrift: Rådmansgatan 7 Stockholm 18. 10. 38 Dear Dr. Montell. These ponchos formed part of a small collec- tion belonging to my father Edward Henry Whorf (b. 1851, d. 1903) of Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A and were collected by him during his years of work in Mexico (1882 - 1903) on the construction and organization of the Mexican Central railroad and. a narrow gage railroad around the city of Mexico. My first rememberance of them goes back to about 1889 when my parents made their home i Mexi- co City but I believe they came originally from the Province of San Luis Potosi and were collected by my father during the time the railroad was un- der, construction through that part of the country: My parents were then living in the old Hacienda de Pe (a monastery, on the estate of Con Pepe Rase before Mexico was excommunicated by the. Pope) and where I was borra in 1884. It is a pleasure to feel that these textiles• after many years of wandering and neglect, have come at last under your appreciative care and am happy in the thought that they may pass on to posterity as a token of my Jeep admiration for my adoptive land, Sweden, My husband joins me in cordial rememberances to you. Very sincerely yours,. Guadeloupe Dorothea Whorf Broberg [ocr]
