Välkommen till Sverige
Den 6 juni 2019 var det högsommarvärme i Slottsskogen. Svenska flaggan var hissad, nationalsången spelades. 4 800 nya medborgare från 130 olika länder hade bjudits in till en välkomstceremoni. 800 personer tackade ja, och fick var sitt diplom av Göteborgs stad.
"Jag visste inte att ett land kunde vara så strukturerat. Allt är så välplanerat", sa den nya medborgaren Vikrant Kapil till Göteborgs-Posten.
Välkomstceremonier har anordnats i Göteborg sedan 2007. Men att Göteborg får nya invånare från andra länder är en självklarhet sedan 400 år tillbaka. År 1900 var 1,6 procent av stadens invånare födda i andra länder, främst Västeuropa. Sedan dess har invandringen ökat år för år, och anledningarna till att komma till Sverige har blivit fler. Krig i Jugoslavien, militärkupp i Chile, arbetslöshet i Finland, revolution i Iran, inbördeskrig i Syrien – men också studier, jobb och kärlek. År 2020 var 27 procent av Göteborgs befolkning från ett annat land än Sverige.

Welcome to Sweden
On 6 June 2019 it was a hot day in Slottsskogen park. The Swedish flag was flying and the national anthem was playing. 4,800 new citizens from 130 different countries had been invited to a welcoming ceremony. 800 accepted and each received a diploma from the City of Gothenburg. “I didn’t know that a country could be so structured. Everything is so well planned,” said the new citizen Vikrant Kapil to Göteborgs-Posten.
Welcoming ceremonies have been held in Gothenburg since 2007. But it has been a matter of course for the past 400 years that new residents from other countries came here. In 1900, 1.6 percent of Gothenburg’s residents were born in other countries, mainly in Western Europe. Since then, immigration has gone up year by year, and the reasons for coming to Sweden have also increased. War in Yugoslavia, a military coup in Chile, unemployment in Finland, a revolution in Iran, civil war in Syria – but also studies, jobs and love.
In 2020, 27 percent of Gothenburg’s population was from a country other than Sweden.
