03336 -2=- The second part pages 169-382 assorsbes the renaissance of China änd the war with Javan. I have tried to BRA a special study of the åmportant developments in China counting from Chiang Kai-shek"s Northern Expedition in 1926 to the present day. This second part of the book 1s now being translated to be publisbed by Kegan Paul in London. In some additional pages I summarize the events of the last four months ending with an appeal for support from the democratic great powers. I think that my little volume which will be sold at the price of approximately 10/64 will be a plea for the case of china and thati 1t should be placed in the hands of statemen and politicians in Great Britain and in U.S.A. But I am not certain that people of that kind will buy a book like this and for this reason I suggested in alletter to my friend Dr. Wong Wen-Hao, Minister of Economic Affairs, to ssk the Chungking Government to give a graht of l00 Pounds sterling for the free distribution of somåthing like one thousand copiee, half in Great Britain and half in U.S.A.: Dr. Wong replied that he would support such a scheme that had to be prosented to Dr. H.H. Kung, the Minister of finance, On the other hand I have approached the publisher ivho is willing to grant a reductioi f 208. Proofs of all the text will be presented to yon and to Dr. Hu Shih in Washington for your examination and your approval of the book as fit to serve the cause of China. May I hope to count upon your support for this distribution scheme? The two embassies will then be asked to provide us with the adresses but we think that the distribution should be left in the hands of the publisher when enclosing a card: "With the suthorås compliments" I will very much avpreciate to get your kind advice on this little propaganda scheme. Your Excellency, I had the honour to meet your Excelleney in London at of the Chinese Art Exhibition in Burlington House 1935. For many yedrs from 1914-1927 I worked in the service Government as mining däviser under the Board of Agriculture In 1936 I returndd to China and stayed there until May last In March and KÖR FE atsydd several weeks in Nanking the occasion of the Chinese and Commerce. year. lecturing in universities and other institutions, and during this time I became fully acdbinted with the remarkable renaissance whé&ch China was under- going in practically every department of National life and which promised a glorious future to The Middle Kingdom. Alas, in the following summer broke out that terrible which 18 still raging and fihe end of which 18 still distant conflict and uncertain. After my return to Sweden I published by thb end of last year a volume in Swedish of which I bake the liberty to send you a copy. The title of the book is: Under brinnande krig /Under burning war./
