0237 The University Prints —— NEWTON, MASS, June 6, 1938 Östasiatiska Samlingarna Stockholm, Sweden Gentlemen: We are preparing as study material for students in this country who are interested in the art of the Far East a set of study pictures such as the one I enclose, available to students and teachers at the cost of 13 cents apiece. The Early Indian Art Series was issued in February, edited by Professor Rowland of Harvard University, and we hope to have about 150 plates on Early Chinese Art, edited by Nr. Leurence Sickman of the Nelson Gallery, Kansas City, for students to use during the academic year 1938-1939. Would you be willing to allow us to reproduce in this set of pictåres the Vase of funerary type with design of coiling spirals in purple and black, Period of Yang-shao, which you exhibited at the International Exhibition in London (reproduced in the catalogue, No. 1). Ne should of course label the picture correctly with due acknowledgment to ownership, If you are willing to be thus represented in the Oriental Art publication we are preparing, will you send us a good photograrh, billing us for the cost of the print, or would you prefer to have us secure the photo from the Royal Academy of Arts, London, with your author- fratlont You may be interested to know that Dr. Oswald Sirén is helping us by allowing us to use some of his photographs. He expressed confidence in the éditorship of this publication, and is willing to cooperate with us. I shall appreciate an early reply, for we are gathering materiel in readiness for making half tones as soon as possible. Yours truly, Ees. Ha. O Wald Hm Helen D. Willard Secretary
