omr Hanoi, April 15, 1938. Professor B. Karlgren, Östasiatiska Samlingarna, Sveavägen 65, STOCKHOLM. Dear Professor Karlgren:- I herewith send you an official letter addressed to our Research Committee whieh I think puts the matter before you very clearly, and to this I add the kind reply of M. Coedes in which he fully endor- ses the scheme proposed by us. It is certainly a proof of the interest taken in our work that Melle. Colani now goes back to that same region to continue the work where I left it, and I think it also a great favour from the side of the director of the Ecole to grant our museum the same favourable conditions also for such missions eventually undertaken with our funds. In other words I hope that all parties concerned will agree that the plan here forwarded is de facto a good one. A quite different thing and the one which decides the whole matter is whe- ther the Committee and eventually the Government thinks it possible to use the remaining allowed 8,000 Crs in such a way as suggested by me, Will you kindly look in- to the matter and send according to the decigion reached a code telegram according to the following little spe- eial code: REGRET s The Committee regrets that the proposal for formal reasons cannot be accepted. BAIEDALONG = Proposition accepted only for Baie ad”Along. COMPLETELY = Proposition accepted for the whole re- maining sum. Please address this telegram to M. Coedes at your earliest convenience. I will be on my way home - how and where - nobody knows, so please take this matter entirely in your hands, Thanking you in advancg, Yours very truly, FE Ales a/encs. J. G. Andersson
