Cast in one piece. Its cylindrical shaft has four straight ribs at the back which terminate in long conical points joined together with a bar - "spiked-ribs". Upper and lower ribs form top and bottom collars of the shaft. An extension of the upper rib runs onto the blade as a double rib ending in an arrowhead. Two central ribs extend into a similar second arrow. The upper and lower edges of the blade are strengthened by a thickening. The sharply curved lower edge continues down the front of the shaft to the bottom collar. Decor: five sets of triple bands in low relief and a water bird in full relief decorate the upper edge. This slopes down into a broad cutting edge.

Cf/excavation: Vanden Berghe 1968c II Brussels: fig. 3:10; Coghlan 1975; Cf/collection: Moorey 1971 no. 17, pl. 2; Maxwell-Hyslop 1949 20B; Calmeyer 1969; Godard 1968. Maxwell-Hyslop's type 20B best describes this axe: "blade splayed, ribbing continued on the surface of blade". There is also some resemblance with those dated to the twelfth century BC by their northern Mesopotamian inscriptions (Calmeyer). Our variation with its animal decor may be a later development of Luristan and based on imports (Godard). This animal decor is specifically Luristan in style.
