Cylinder seal with vertical bore and slightly concave sides. Engraving in low relief depicting a deity, facing right, rising between twinned mountain peaks, with one leg raised and placed on the lower peak. He is wearing a flattened style, horned headdress and a long, pleated robe open in front, and holds what appears to be a serrated blade. At each side of him, a vertical pole-gate with horizontal bands is held open by bearded, attendant figures with heads turned backwards, and close shaven hair style or close fitting cap (which applies to the completely preserved figure). They wear long pleated skirts, open in front. A third, similar worshipper (?) figure, facing right, with the same beard and hairstyle, and wearing a long pleated skirt, carries a bird in one arm and raises the other arm. Opaque, greyish-green, fossilized coral.

Ett sigill ligger i kolli 464. -Three impressions. -H. Merrillees catalogue 1995:VII.8. -This mythological scene is considered to represent the sun god – Shamash, in his dawn rising from the mountaintop to begin the day’s journey across the sky while the gates of heaven are open by the heavenly attendants. The MM cylinder differs from the Collon examples in that no ‘rays’ emerge from the shoulders of ‘Shamash’ and the attendants are without the single horned headdress.

- Stone. Fossilized coral, opaque, greyish-green in colour with curious internal circular patterning, possibly similar to Buchanan 1966, no 345, which is described as ‘speckled’. Although the use of shell is known in the Akkadian period, coral is extremely rare.
