Artemis Bendis is the Athenian syncronism between the Greek Artemis and the Thracian Bendis, both of whom were goddesses associated with hunting. A cult to Bendis was introduced to Athens by Thracian immigrants sometime during the late fifth century BC, and eventually became so popular among the Athenian residents that the goddess was granted her own festival, the Bendideia. Her sanctuary was located in the Piraeus.
