Conservation report, 1996-09-19, no.16854000. Conservator: Eva Christensson. Division Manager: Lars-Uno Johansson, Condition: The vessel was broken into pieces as a result of an accident. Measures taken in the repair: The sherds were put in RO-water, i.e. reversed osmosis, in order to extract harmful salt. This procedure resulted in that both the slip and the decoration began to dissolve. The sherds were immediately removed from the water. The sherds were left to dry and thus regained their original decoration. It is possible that the procedure of extraction could have proceeded, but I did not want to risk the valuable decoration. Consequently, after I had consulted Beate Geroge at the Medelhavsmuseet, I decided to glue the sherds together. The glue employed was Paraloid B72, (akrylatglue) in acetone. The vessel must in the future be kept in a suitable environment, at a humidity level around 45-55 %.
