"When a batwa moves further into the swamp and thereby has to abandon its small pumping fields, he takes the seeds of this plant and stores them for future needs. However, as the moisture in the swamp makes the seeds want to germinate prematurely and thereby be spoiled, the batwa binds the pump cores that are to be preserved between two sticks. These are inserted into the hut wall, so that the cores are exposed to the air dried by the cooking fire. In this way, the pump cores can be preserved even for a longer time to germinate. Fig. 153 shows a seed container of the type described herein; its length is 47 cm. The pumpkin seeds are flat and have a length of 2 cm. and a width of 1.5 cm." (p. 239, von Rosen, 1916, translated from Swedish).

According to the general catalog: Seeds of gourd pumpkins. The seeds are stored between two interconnected sticks, which are inserted into the hut wall. This prevents the seeds from germinating in the otherwise penetrating moisture.
