Name and identification of character
A demon character called kila gara rassa (Sin.).
Context
A lesser character of the Gara group appearing in the finale of demon and god rituals, and in Kolam.
Material
Wood, vel-kaduru (Sin.) (Nux vomica).
Iconography
The mask is of the smaller Gara variety. It has a spread out cobra-hood as its head-piece. The cobra has shed its skin, only the overlapping scales remain. There are three smaller cobras on both sides of the forehead band. The eyes are bulging. The nose is asymmetric with the dimensions of the small Gara mask. There is a holy spot, tilaka (Sin.), the eyes. The mouth is broad and has a moveable lower jaw. The two rows of teeth and two eye-teeth are visible.
