A village headman or chieftain, aracci (Sin.).
Context
A stock character appearing in the preliminary stage of a Kolam performance.
Material
Wood, vel-kaduru (Sin.) (Nux vomica).
Iconography
The village chieftain is a person who wields much authority in the village. This aspect of the character is easily recognisable in the mask. The broad side-whiskers painted in black, covering most part of the cheeks. The handlebar moustache. The strong nose is also a physical characteristic of a hardy man.
