The turban is painted on the head. Perhaps a piece of cloth was tied around the head during the dance. The face is grey in colour. Wrinkles are cut and painted in red lines on the forehead, along the cheeks and around the chin. The mouth is open with protruding and exaggerated teeth in white, conveying an air of doltishness. The nose is small and beak shaped, suggesting his crafty nature. The ears are crudely carved.
