THE ROCKEFELLER FOUNDATION 49 WEST 49th STREET, NEW YORK 20 THE HUMANITIES Can AppRrssr BAYID STEVENS, DiRNETOR Rocksovsn, NEw Yo October 31, 1949 Deer Professor Karlgren: In reply to your letter of October 19, I should like to say I am glad to hear that the five students of Stockholm University are plenning to come to the United States soon to acquaint themselves with Far Eastern studies here, The travel of these students to the United States will be under the grant which was made by the Rockefeller Foundation to the University of Stockholm, but the adminis- tration of the grant in all respects lies with the Univer- sity of Stockholm. From all we have heard, we are pleased with the quslity of the work done by Messrs. Olle Andersson, Sven Broman, Göran Malmavist, Sdren Egerod and Henry Henne, and since they are the choice of the University of Stockholm, we have confidence in their ability and integrity. We are looking forward with pleasure to the coming of these young men to the United States to continue their studies and will be glad to do anything possible to facilitate their work In the United States.
