Column krater. Thick, bevelled rim with rectangular handle plates; splaying neck; bulging shoulder; ovoid body, tapering towards base; hoop handles from handle plates to shoulder; stepped disc base in two degrees. Red clay; red ochre wash; black glaze. Rim top reserved, pattern of connected lotus buds and dots; on handle plates small ivy leaves, dots, palmette fans and scrolls - framed by double, vertical lines; on rim edge ivy stem; on each side of neck a reserved panel with connected lotus buds and dots; on each side of body figured panel framed by ivy stems - A: Dionysos, bearded, wearing a long chiton, holding a wine branch in his left hand, offering a drinking-horn to a satyr with his other hand; the satyr is in his turn holding a wine-skin; behind the satyr is a maenad with krotala; in front of Dionysos is another satyr, playing the double pipe, with a panther skin; B: a maenad and two satyrs; base line below figures on both sides; above base reserved zone with rays.
