Description <itemDescription>
  • Colossal, male head. Square beard (in the Assyrian fashion), differentiated from cheek by a line. Large, prominent eyes, arched eyebrows, high cheekbones and protruding lips. Wearing a pointed helmet with upturned cheek, incised grooves decorate the border. On the back of the head, the hair is arranged in a bulging mass. Traces of white paint.

  • Gift by L.Z. Pierides, Larnaca, in 1930. The head was purchased from roadbuilders near Bamboula.

  • 2nd Proto-Cypriote Style.
    The head may have belonged to the cultstatue, the feet (K. 560) of which were found in situ during the Swedish Excavations at Bamboula, 1929 (SCE III, 4, 51, fig. 4).
