This german made pulp refiner, manufactured by Andritz Sprout-Bauer, processes and refines paper pulp. The pulp is produced by processing wood chips using heat and a mechanical refining movement. The wood chips worked by this refiner have a moisture content of around 25–30 percent and a mechanical force is applied to the wood chips in a crushing or grinding action which generates heat and water vapour and softens the wood thus separating the individual fibres.
