Denna samling utgör ett viktigt tillskott till andra dräktsamlingar i museet, i synnerhet de från Mellanamerika (Centralamerika). Proveniensen för dräkterna/dräktdelarna i denna samling är ej klargjord men de flesta torde vara från Guatemalas högland där t.ex. quiché maya, cakchiquel maya, pokomam maya och ixil maya bor. Museets bibliotek har publikationer om maya dräkter i maya- höglandsområdet (södra Mexiko och delar av Guatemala). Museet och Guatemalas ambassad i Stockholm har vid olika tillfällen diskuterat möjlighetejn att ordna ett forskar-/expertbesök från Guatemala med syfte att identifiera dräkter/delar av dräkter i relation till specifikt mayafolk/område/by. Museets bildarkiv har äldre och mer nutida fotografier med motiv från höglandsmaya, bl.a. dräkt. Notera dessutom att museet har dräkter från yucatec maya (Yuacatanhalvön, Mexiko). SB, 2010-12-14.

This collection is an important addition to other dress collections kept at the museum, particularly the dress collections from Middle America (Central America). The exact provenance of the dresses are not identified but most of the dresses/dress parts are probably from the highland area of Guatemala where e.g. the Quiché Maya, the Cakchiquel Maya, the Pokomam Maya and the Ixil Maya live. The museum library has a number of publications that specifically deal with dress of the Highland Maya. Over the years the museum and the Guatemalan Embassy in Stockholm have discussed the possibility to have a research/dress expert/ visit from Guatemala with the objective to identify Maya dresses/dress parts with regard to the specific Maya people/area/village. The museum photo archive has old and more recent photographs with ethnographiocal Maya motives, including dresses. Note also that the museum has Yucatec Maya (Yucatan paeninsula) dresses.
