Människorna i Nya Lödöse har inget val. De måste plocka ner sina hus och flytta till det nya Göteborg. Sommaren 1622 släpps vattnet på i den stora Hamnkanalen. Då är Göteborg fortfarande mer en byggarbetsplats än en stad. Det är glest mellan husen och de som fått lämna Nya Lödöse är inte nöjda. Varför måste de bo här, och varför går de bästa tomterna till utländska köpmän?
