Flaska, Bottle

Blue-and-white porcelain bottle with a long neck and a spherical-shaped body. Painted in underglaze cobalt blue, the image of two bamboo stems adorns one side of the bottle and the image of a flying crane surrounded by stylized clouds the other side. The crane symbolises longevity; the bamboo has different symbolic meanings but is mostly associated with integrity. Judging from the quality of the painting, the decoration on this bottle was probably made by a court painter. A blue line encircles the relatively low foot. A bluish-grey tinged glaze covers the bottle. The footrim has been wiped free of glaze and has remains of brownish kiln grit.
This bottle has the typical shape of a wine bottle of the late Joseon dynasty (1392–1910).
