The Dürkopp Class 566-104 chain stitch button sewing machine from the 1930s was originally used in the Vereinigte Wäschefabriken (United Linen Works) of Th. and G. Winkel. It was solely operated by women. Today the machine is an exhibit of the Museum Wäschefabrik in Bielefeld and is used for demonstrational purposes. The machine sews two- and four-holed buttons with 16 stitches. It can also sew stud buttons with or without a bar for the outer button. The typical sound of the machine comes from the clattering made by the stitching movement of the needle.
