Text in English: This is a military musket with a stock in walnut (Juglans) and matchlock ignition. The stock consists of three fragments, the butt and lock mortise area (06458) and two fragments from the end of the forestock (07087 and 07144), which join. The original nose end of the forestock survives but the cap is missing. The break between these two fragments occurs at an old repair. Although the two forestock fragments do not join 06458, they are clearly of the same wood, with distinctive grain, and this is the only shoulder weapon made of walnut. Ramrod fragments are found in 06458, and samples were identified as Prunus spp (cherry, plum or similar).
