Purchased from Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk, Denmark, with the intermidiary of H.-Å. Wellin for the Royal Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities (Vitterhetsakademien), with means donated by a private fund. The Danish museum had purchased the amphora on the London antique market, where it had been placed by a private British collector.
