Mouth painted, except top; on shoulder one row of bars and one of rays; outside of handle painted; two narrow bands below shoulder; below this a meander to the right between bands; at about mid-body an ivy branch with leaves and berries, one narrow and one lattice band above and below; on lower body four wet-incised lines; lowest part of body and base top painted; black line on lowst part of base.

A lekythos (pl. lekythoi) is generally a taller, cylindrical vessel with a small, deep mouth, narrow neck and a single handle. However, many variants of the shape do exist, including the rounded, squat form and the ovoid “Deianeira” form, all in various sizes. They were used for the storage of oils and are especially associated with funerary contexts. Towards the end of the fourth century BC they were functionally replaced by the unguentaria.
