On lower neck opposite handle reserved panel with black tongues inscribed by relief lines; on body opposite handle a standing female figure dressed in a peplos, facing a bird on a pedestal to the left, on the right of the woman is a circular object, scrolls on both sides of the scene - details described with relief contours; ovoli below scene; one reserved area below this and one at junction between body and base; half of bottom black.

A lekythos (pl. lekythoi) is generally a taller, cylindrical vessel with a small, deep mouth, narrow neck and a single handle. However, many variants of the shape do exist, including the rounded, squat form and the ovoid “Deianeira” form, all in various sizes. They were used for the storage of oils and are especially associated with funerary contexts. Towards the end of the fourth century BC they were functionally replaced by the unguentaria.
