Trefoil mouth with bevelled rim; neck with concave profile; ovoid, melon-moulded body; broad band handle with added rolls on each side; raised, splaying base. Reddish yellow clay; buff slip; black paint, largely misfired to red. Dots on rim; outside of mouth painted; on neck (but interrupted behind handle) hatched meander between lozenge chains and horizontal lines; each ‘melon-slice’ on body decorated with elongated, hatched tongue inscribed in dotted and solid lines; spaces in between ‘slices’ painted; lower body encircled by one group of lines and further down one group of bands; rolls on handle dotted - on flat part of handle horizontal lines alternating with quatrefoils and panel with piled chevrons; base painted.

An oinochoe (pl. oinochoai, alternatively spelled oenochoe/oenochoai) is a single-handled vessel, more specifically a jug, usually taller than it is wide. They come in many different shapes and forms, with variations in profile, mouth-type and handle-form. They functioned as pouring vessels for wine and have taken their name from the Greek words “oinos” (wine) and “cheo” (I pour). Miniature versions were often placed in children’s graves.
