These fragnents are also enclosed for your kina perusal. If you think that these two fragments can be taken as an in- dication on the existence of man in pre-loessic time also in the Lan- chow region, I ask you kindly to make such mention of the find as yonr consider proper for your monograph. But I would ask you kindly to re- i turn the specimens which I like to reproduce in our collection. I feel sure that you have already received Pr. Black's monograph on the new Chou Kou Tien tooth Sinanthropus Pekinensis. Don't you think that it may be a little premature to coin a new generic name upon this single tooth, however important it might be? I rather feel that a specific name, Homo Pekinensis had been more appro- priate for the time being. I will of course be very glad to have yotr opinion on this point, as "The Peking Lady,” will naturally have her own chapter in my book, By the way, did I ever send you copies of the photos I took of you at Chou Kou Tien? At any rate, I enclose these pictures in this letter. I will be glad to learn from you whether my little quartsite fragments are of any use or not. Yours very devotedly,

0577 b that you are going to publish a full monograph on your wonderful dis- coveries in the. Ordos. I think I will hot write the chapter on your finds before the summer and then I will possibly have the advantage of drawing from your monograph. At any rate, I will ask your kina per- mission to send you copy of that chapter in order to have your kind additions and corrections. ; With reference to lanåscape photographs from your Orétos work I would be very glad, with your kind permission, to have all the land- scapes photographs which were &0 beautifully reproduced in Natural History. It goes without saying, that I would be very glad to have original copies directly from your negatives if that is possible. You certainly know from your own experience how much better cliches you get from photographic copies. But this, of course, I leave entirely for you to decide. PE Do you hot think it possible to favor me with some photograph of yourself and Pere Licent, STAR SURlIg separate portraits. You will certainly realize it being a guite legitimate ambition to have the dis- " eoverers of the Ordos palaeolithic very fully represented in my book. | As to illustrations of the fossils, I will of course before all use the material which is already at my disposition. But if I could have a photograph of the complete mounted rhinoceros and possibly some other of your species, I would be exceedingly grateful. It goes without saying that nothing of such material should be published before your monograph i is out. Now I take the liberty of sending you a small parcel containing two quartsite fragments which I found at ne bottom of the lo0oess formation in stratified layers of intercolateåd sand and 1l0oess in the Yellow River cliff just below Lanchow. "Further details you will fina upon the label. I noted that the bed in which these two fragments was found was of the loessic type and it struck me that such fragments could haröly have been

ÖF2ta Östasiatiska Samlingarna, Sveavägen 65, Stockholm. March 1,1928 Pere Teilhard de Chardåin, . Laboratoire de Paleontologie äu Museum, 3 Place Valhubert Paris V My very dear Pere Teilharå, ; Thank you ever so much for your very kinå letter of January löth and please excuse me for having been 80 slow in replying. I have spoken with Professor Stensiö about the fossil fishes from Spitzbergen, but am very sorry to inform you that - to his wonderful metnod of cutting up the specimens there is nothing left of really good specimens which could be sent to you. As I said in my sörlier letter, I would be a:ligh ted to send Professor Boule a very fine series of our neolithic things, but I understand that that woukd be of little avail. Eventually I gould ask Prökbänor Halle to select a good set of his palaeozoic plants from Shansi to be forwardåed to any French museum suggested by Professor Rörie. Btill I fear that even this scheme will amount to very little. During these circumstances I will make a new respectful raduäst, namely that this institute will be favored, at the convenient time, with plaster casts of the best instruments from the Ordos. In return for suck a donation Professor Wiman has already promis- ed to prepare for Professor Boule plaster casts of ihe two hominid teeth from Chou Kou Tien.,. Furthermore, I will ask Professor Wiman to send Professor Boule a small selection of mammal fossils from the Chou Kou Tien davesst. I consider it more important to have some good plaster casts, if pössiblö painted in the rignt color, than to have some few relatively simple chippec quartsites in original. I am exceedingly glad to learn from your letter
