Alternative A is certainly the right tyne for the Swedish rublie who knows se and tales an inte: t in ny Tibetan adventures. Those travel eherters förr certat the lfghter reading af tne book. On the other hand, the.svaller volume ömt sats for the world will fors a rather forceful eppeal to the wits peoples to consider before 1t 19 too lata the trerendous issue: 1/ Driving out ell "estern and American interests fram China 1f tho Japanese are victorious and with certsinty onening the way for further aggresstons towarés French Ingo-China, the Philinnine Islands, Dutch Fast Indies - and beyond. 2/ Free trade and amicnble trestmont by all skite reoples 1f the Chinese cen he given sufficient assistance ta survive. I leave 1t entirely in your handa to decide which of the two schemes 18 more attractive to you. Dear sirs, TI have to thank rov for your kind note of 21 insat. faen I wrote my previous letter I was under the impression that there may have been some misunderstanding between us about the sales of the "Chilaren of the Yellow Earth as bota tre Freneh book store ån Peving and Kelly Walsh in Sianghaj have told me that their sale of tnis book has been vi ry good. Specially the Frenen book store indicated that the book had been in their äs one of their good sellers. Sut I surfgest that we leave tnis to be dis- cussed at a later occasion as you soem to be intersated in the new book which I am now completing. The Swedish edition of the now book wnich is expected to be ready about October 1st is a mixed narrative of my journeys in China, Tibet and Indo-Ohine with abfundant caapters of rather light reading, and an account of the tremendous Sino-Janenese conflict now in full swing. I can nrovide you with nroof skeets of tra Swedien text to be translated in London as we did with enild- ren of the Yellow Earth. Or I could öietate to my secratary a rough English text coverine exactly what Isrishito say but in need of Dolishinag by one of vour man. Or T eould have my friend Ur. Fyre, a Cambridge van who kas been sorking with se for many veara, to translate the book into rerfact Fnfclieh st the sema tima FÖndo Meg oxactly what I sant to say. For this he will charge half a nound for each Nnrtnted pars, Ey the way, Mr. Erro Ass pointed out that my title China firhte fi the world has a double sense that mav cmuse some mis- understanding. He has surfested: China firits ta snve the world. This of course 1s a first class title hut to ry ind sorevhat stronger than I wanted to mt Eyro or von will certainly helb re to set a eentivatinr art at tha same tine edeminte title. The Swedieh title of tre comnlete hoov 1s verbally translat- ed Undar burning war. I expect this to be a sood seller and will annrocitste such kind arrangement on your nart as will five me enanlate insight in- to the actual sales. I am not interested in advances, onlv In full share secordinsto tha contrect. I ask vou to take no offence over this statement. TI think you are fust as anxious as T am to esteblish a spirit of hopefulness in this new co-onreration. Very sincerely yours
