oto - IF - most of them taking only one share bu some of them two. Fach member of the syndicate esplained on beforehand what kind of ob- jeots he wanted and in this way the distribution of the collections has worked very smootnly. When the syndicate vas reorganized for Karlbeck 's third collecting expedition two foreign museums entered into the syndicate, Dansk Kungtlädustrslägseus in Kopenhagen with one share and British Museum in London with two shares, Several private British collectörs have also joined the syn- dicate and they are very pleased with the quality of the svecimens and the moderate price, which is at an average 1/10 to 1/5 of the price paid in London or New York. Now the syndicete is going to be reorganized for the third time and I take the liberty of asking whether you would like to join, :If so I would be pleased to send you photographes of his specimens and other particulars. | There is still ar other question I wish to put before you. An international congress of arthistory will meet here in Stockhom in September; In this connection tie Grotn Prince has suggested that we arrange an exhibition of Chinese brönzes and another of Ordos- bronzes. The Chinese bronzes will be arranged chronolöogically, what has. never been done before in the way we plan to do it, We estimate the cost of this exhibition at 5000 crowns (slightly less than 1000 dollars), I am trying tö get five of ourifriends to subscribe 1000 crowns each. I feel certain that our Crown Prince would count it a special courtesy if you Here kind inaf to take one of thäse shares, fe would appreciate still more if you could come över at the occasion of the Gongress in September, I have asked Professor Roosval the General Secretary to send you all printed matters in connection with this congress. sith most respectful compliments,. Very sincerely. Yours

Oda SR Stockholm the 27 Jan. 1933, Mrs, Ada Moore, 4 Bast, 54 street, New York City. Dear Mrs, Moore, Yesterday, to my immense delight Mr, Palme telephoned to me telling that he, accompanied by Mrs. Palme, was in Stockholm and that they were prepared to pay us a visit bringing greetings from you. They came here this morning and I showed them carefully all our recent acquisitions including many remarkable restorations of big and strange Chinese and Japanese potteries. Very fortunately our excellent collector Mr, O., Karlbeck had just returned from the Far East and he showed to Nrs, and Mr, Palme some of his recent acquisitions, including some unique pieces, as for instance a Chinese bronge-sword from the Tsin-dynastie. It vas a great pleasure to me to see again your young friends and show them round in the Museum, Much has happened here since your visit to Stockholm, Last year our Crown Prince celebrated his fifty years universally and we then dedicated to him the fourth volume of our Bulletin, TI take the opportunity of sending you two copies of our four Bulletin volumes, one copy för you and the other for Mrs, and Mr, Palme, Our dedication voluge to the Crown Prince was presented to him at a banquet given in the söutnöå hall of the Museum,

Oi00 6, -2- There were seventy guests including the Crown Princess and Crown Brince. Every thing went of alright, and we count this our biggest social affair so far, If you look into the dedication volume, you will see how many names there are under the address to the Crown Prince includång Mr, Kelley of The Art Institute of Chicago. 'I am sorry that I did not ask you to sign this address, : E i There is of the dedication volume an "edition de luxe", JdÖOut of the 100 copies tbere remain only = Would you like to subscribe for one at a price of 100 crowns? I åo not know shether I told you about the collecting activitie of Mr, Karlbeck, Originally he was a railway engineer and was for many years attached to the Soutben section of the Tientsin-Pukow railway. During his stay in China he made a remarkable collection of small bronzes which he sold about 1922 to the Hallwyl collection at a very low price considering the high quality of these small bronzes. : A second collection was sola to the Freer Art Gallery in fpligtee. Further collections göre bought by this museum and - form some of our best treasures. During the disturbances in the Yangtse vallöy in the spring of 1927 Karlbeck lost his position and returned to Iweden, je then managed to get some donatörs to provide the funds for | a sollesting expedition, and during 1929-1930 Karlbeeck brought home to tnis museum not lest than 858 specimens, most of them exquisite small bronzes. i ; shen it became evident that the museum could not raise funds for a second collecting campaign, our Crown Prince in collaboration with Nr, Lagrelius organized a syndicate consisting of 20 shares of 5000 crowns each. This shares were distributed between our connaisseurs,
