> 0685. Stocknolm June 1.1927. Professor Paul Pelliot, PARIS. Dear Professor Pelliot, A very beautiful bronze bell has come in my way, and I have for the present an option en this object. H, R, H. The Crownprince of the Sweden saw the bell when he visited Peking and was very favourably impressed, but he is very careful and wants all information that we can dossibly gather on ine matter. Ve are of the opinion that the bell is either an original, dating probably from Tsin or Han, or otherwise an exceedingly well made recasting frem a very fine original. Tne surface and specially the patina seems to support the first opinion. Granted tnat the specimen now offered to us is a replica of an earlier original, it seems quite probable that such a fine specimen must be known to experts en Chinese bronzes. 9o I take tne liberty of sending you two photographs of the bell, asking you kindly to inform me whether you know any specimen that could possibly be the original to our specimen. The bell is approximately 26 inches high, Thanking you in anticipation of your kind help I have the honor to. remain ( Yours truly
