p526, eu a. The Survey copies will be shipped to China as soon as ready, and bill of lading forwarded without delay. One sample copy will be mailed to Peking as soon as ready. b. Swedish authors” copies will be distributed only two months and half after the sending off of the main stock for the Survey. cC. At the bottom of the covers printed in Sweden will be printed a list of selling agents of the Pal. Sinica. The printing of Palmgred s paper is now so far advanced that we expect it to be ready some time in March. There are now three palasontological papers waiting to be printed. They have been held up because of the long delay of Palmgren”s paper. These three papers are as follows: /Hopwood/ Fessil Proboscidea from China by £. Tindell Hopwood British Museum /Natural History/. /Stens1iö/ Sinamia zdanskyl, A new Amlid from the Lower Cretaceous of Shantung, China. /Zdansky/ Eqvus und andere Perissodactyla By Otto Zdansky, Ezxvptian University. Already in the early part of last year I asked the printing office to calculate the cost of these three monographs and I herewith include their offer of the 5 of May 1933. Some days ago I asked them whether they could somerhat modify in our favoar their old tender given on the 17.4. 1931. They have answered me thal they are working very near their costprice and I have other reasons to belleve that so is the case. /For another puclication I asked one of out cheapest book-printers to offer me a tender in competition with the Tullbefg firg. This tender

05256 - 2 free of cost as your selling agents for at least the archaeological papers printed here. It sometimes happens that travelling archaeologists visiting out collections ask for your publications and I have then only had to refer to your agents. I do not imagine that the sale established in tnis way will amount to very much but in order to make it as remunerative as possible we will certainly ask för no commission and charge you only for postage if we cannot send the bocks as our own service-mail. I now pass to replying as far as possible to your different points. 1. Io linsit ec far as possible, the free distribution: I quite agree to cut down the complimentary copies to a total of 100 and I suggest to deal with them as follows: a. 50 copies will be presented to the author. b. 25 copies will be presented to this Museum. C. 25 copies will be kept by us for your account and sold by us without charging any commission. 2. To extend and facilitate the selling: ÅA small suggestion to this effect has already been made above. Kegan Paul is going to publish an English edition of my book "Children of the yellow earth", and it is quite possible that they woul” be willing in some way to advertise your publications, specially a&s they are your agents. I will write to them to-day in order to facilitate this matter. 3, To have the printed memoirs more quickly ready for the public. All what you wfite under this heading is quite in accord with my own views. In order to emphasize my willingness to conform with your instructions I repeat them here.

The 16th. of Sept. 1932 you sent me a letter referring to the printing of our contributions to the Palasontologia Sinica. I have not yet replied properly to the different points mentioned in that letter and my delay in answering has been due to the all too iong delay in completing Palmgren”s big monograph, It has been necessary to overhaul and revise very thoroughly his voluminous manuscript and only now can I sea with certainty the end of this tedious printingebusiness., Because of the delay of this nonogfarh nothing has so far happened in printing Pal. Sin. this side, but now several papers are overdue and 1 am anxious to conform with your wishes in the letter of Sept. 16th. 1932, I fully realize your difficulty in raising funds för printing Palaeontologia Sinica and we very much admire your persistence and skill in carrying on your great scientific work in spite of the difficulties surrounding the Survey. Ve are certaihly more than willing to do our part in helping to sell the Palaecontologia Sinica, and in order to show at once our willingness to assist you, may I suggest that we will act entirely
