Slightly everted rim; ledge for a lid on inside; straight neck, offset from body; low, rounded body; raised, biforal handles at mid-body; the bowl stands on a fenestrated, splaying stand. Light brown to yellowish red clay; light brown to yellowish buff slip; lustrous, black paint. Bowl: ledge painted; on neck a dotted lozenge chain between bands; on both sides of body in handle zone a panel with a hatched meander, flanked by cross-hatched triglyph panels; three horizontal bands and a zigzag below the meander; on lower body another dotted lozenge chain between bands; lower body above stand painted; vertical bars between bands on handles; above handles a central rosette framed by horizontal zigzags; beside them on each side a dotted flower on dotted stem and three curved lines; below the handles confronting birds with long beaks. Stand: one of the five ‘legs’ has a checkerboard panel; the second one (from left to right) has a reined horse, facing left, with a bird sitting on its back and a row of dots below; the third has a stag with his head turned back – to the left – a pile of chevrons below and a swastika and dotted rosettes as filling ornaments; in the fourth panel a reined horse, facing right, with a bird standing on his back, a pile of chevrons in the lower field; in the last panel a stag standing on his hind legs, nibbling the crown of a tree, dotted rosettes and a zigzag as filling ornaments; between each ‘leg’ the horizontal and vertical ‘straps’ are decorated with dotted lozenges, chequers and zigzags and piled zigzags respectively; an encircling zigzag between bands on base.
