Inv. 2Z.24 Avskrift. 10th August 1923. Professor C.V. Hartman, 1Naturhist. Riksmuseets Etnogr. Avd. Vallingatan 1• Stockholm. • My dear Professor, I am informed that you require certain additional informa- tion in reference to the donation, from Mexico, and I am pleased to give you some below. First. About one third of the collection was brought together by Mr. C.V. Chisholm, Civil Engineer, who resided in Mexico a number of years, and the remaining 70 % were collected by. me. Second. The collection has been made in the states of Oaxaca, Tlaxcala and Puebla, and none of the objects have ever been in the hands of Antique dealers, nor in Museums. Third. The reason how some Of the objects have labels pasted on is duo to the fact that an Indian friend who possessed great knowledge relative to the origin of same and of what particular Indian civilisation, they belonged, and I employed him in order to obtain whatever useful in-formation I could get. Fourth. It is rather difficult to give the value of this collection, but I should judge that 10.000 would be more or less fair. With your profound knowledge in such matters I am quite sure you can arrive at a more correct valuation. In the collection I may mention that most of the objects belong to Zapotec Mixteca & Tlaxcaltecs civilisation. I trust that the above willl be of some , service to you.I exceedingly regret not having opportunity for a further conversation with you before leaving Stockholm, but must plead limitation of time. With kindest regards, I remain, Yours faithfully Edwin P.... [ocr]
