The Egyptians believed that the world was created in the same way as when, after the annual flood of the Nile, the water receded exposing the land underneath.
A multiplicity of approaches was typical for Egyptian thinking and there were numerous explanations for the creation of the universe. They all had in common that there was a primeval water out of which the first land arose. It was on this first hill that the creation continued: The birth of the sun and the population of the world - first by gods, then by humans.
At the time of creation, the universe was perfect. Focus was on maintaining this perfect world - day after day, year after year. New ideas were added, but they never replaced the old ways of thinking. Instead old and new was combined into a stable and long-lasting system based on the fundamental principle of reverence for the past.

I stället kombinerades gammalt och nytt till ett stabilt och långlivat system, där vördnad för det förflutna var en grundläggande princip.
