Dear Professor Anderssen, I am running over the materials which I have collected in Europe regarding Ethnological studies in various culture areas. In reviewing some of the suggestions that have been made regarding China and the Orient, I see that I have not yet received a memorandum from you on this subject. If this is simply due to the loss of a letter in the mail, would you be good enough to send me at once a duplicate copy of whatever you wrote me, May I remind you that we had some discussion in your office in June about the possibility of conducting a complete JEthno- logical study in two characteristic culture areas in China, The time that we had for discussion of such projects was limited, but I was much interested by your proposal to employ the systematicimethods of modern ethnological and social anthropological work on this ancient culture. Ås I remember, you were to make suggestions regarding the areas and places that seemed to you particularly worth studying, and also regard- ing individuals qualified for such undertaking. I wish you to know that I should still be glad to have this information and that it is not too late to reach me at this office with a letter. If it is not too great an inconvenience I should value your comment on the possibilities of ethnological work in this territory. I should like your suggestions to add to the material that I have already obtained from other sources on this territory, and as a part of the information of my general report. You understand of course that I am seeking your advice merely as a matter of information and that there is no indication yet that anything immediate or practical will come out of your proposals however valuable. May I take this opportunity of thanking you again for our pleasant meetings in Stockholm and for your very kind courtesy and hospitality. I remember my visit with great interest & pleasure.
