0636 Frplar Park, Henley-on-Thames , ENGLAND. 15tn August, 1932. Prof. J.G. Andersson 3 Ostaslatiska Semlingarna, Sveavagen, Stockholm, SWEDEN. Dear Prof, Andersson, I am eneclosing photographs of the two pieces that lr. Karlbeck obtained for me in China and that have come safely to hand. His Royal Highness might perhaps care to keep these phlotographa as a& record. The pleces are of great interest. In view of the theory now held in Peking that some of our Ting pleces arereally Chi-chou wares, the larger of the two pleces definitely establishes what 18 Northern Ting ware. Although 1t does not greatly resemble the ware of the copper=-bound bowls that we have hitherto called Ting, It appears to share many of the characteristics of the white wares found at Söamarra. The smaller plece was made as its inseription indicates at Xuel chi, in Chekiang. This place is the same as the Yuelb-chou of the T' ang Dynast; From the begin= ning of the Sung Dynasty right down to the establlshkment of the Republie /1911/, it was called "Kuei ei"; now it has been absorbed in tbe prefecture of Sbao=-hsing Fu /cheklang/-. I am dellghteåd with the pleces, and should like to express my appreciation and my thanks to His Royal Highness end to the Syndicate for enabling me to secure them. In due course, will you be good enough to let me know what I owe the Syndicate and the kuseum for lr. Karlbeck”s time and trouble in getting them? I saw Er. Karlbeck several times during his recent visit here. I had already written to him to China on the subject of his trip to Hacao, and while be was here, I was able to explain at greater length what I hed written. Vith kind regards, and many therks for your assistance, s Yours sincerelj;, Percival David
